I often hear patients express frustration about large pores. While you can't permanently change your pore size, certain skincare practices can make them appear smaller and smoother. Here's a few simple steps that will have your pores less noticeable in no time.

  1. Cleanse Regularly

Pores can become enlarged when clogged with oil, dead skin cells, and debris. Using a gentle cleanser with salicylic acid can help remove buildup from within the pores, making them look smaller.

  2. Exfoliate with Retinoids

Prescription-strength retinoids or over-the-counter retinol can boost skin cell turnover, preventing clogged pores. Studies show that retinoids help reduce pore size by increasing collagen production, which firms the skin and tightens pores. Tip: See my post on how to appropriately apply retinoids

  3. Use Gentle Skin Care/Products

Ensure that you moisturizers, serums and make up are non-comedogenic, which means it does not clog your pores. When pores are clogged, they dilate and become more visible.

  4. Apply Sunscreen Daily

UV damage can degrade collagen, making pores more noticeable over time. Broad-spectrum sunscreen protects collagen levels and prevents pores from becoming enlarged due to sun damage.

  5. Consider In-Office Treatments

For more significant pore reduction, treatments like chemical peels, microneedling, or laser can improve skin texture and tighten pores.

Remember, consistent care is key to maintaining a smooth, refined complexion.
